SaltStack Config: Automated installation

This path uses an automated installer for both single-node and multi-node installation scenarios.

Agentless Windows module

Attention

saltwinshell is an archived project and not supported by the Salt Project community. Salt Project recommends keeping an eye on heist and heist-salt.

For more information on Heist, drop into the #windows, #pop, and #idem-cloud channels on the Salt Project community Slack workspace.

The Agentless Windows Module can run any Salt SSH command on a target Windows server or desktop, such as the following:

salt-ssh testwin disk.usage

saltwinshell has since become open source, with the code and .whl file download now available in saltstack/saltwinshell on GitHub.

Delta proxy minions

Delta proxy minions are an extension of the standard Salt proxy minions. A standard Salt proxy minion acts as an intermediary between the master and the device it represents. The proxy minion runs on the master and then translates commands from the master to the device as needed.

Normally, you would create a separate instance of proxy minion for each device that needs to be managed. However, if you are running several thousand proxy minions, it can require a lot of memory and CPU. Delta proxy minions make it possible to run one minion that acts as the intermediary between the master and the many network devices it can represent. In this scenario, one device (the delta proxy minion on the master) runs several proxies. This configuration boosts performance and improves the overall scalability of the network.

Delta proxy minion files are included with the SaltStack Config installer. To access the delta proxy installation document, download below.
